Online Therapy

I offer individual online psychological therapy (via a number of virtual online platforms) to adults who are suffering from the following:

  • Depression and other mood disorders
  • Anxiety Disorders (including OCD, BDD, phobias, panic disorder)
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Self-harm
  • Stress (including work-related stress)

The therapeutic approaches I use most regularly are:

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Mindfulness
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy

A significant benefit of seeing a Clinical Psychologist that during our training we are supervised in the application of numerous therapeutic approaches and therefore can combine them in order to suit your unique needs. This is called an 'integrative approach' and can be beneficial because someone who experiences complex difficulties may not suit one particular therapeutic model alone.

Therapy sessions usually last one hour, and take place weekly, although this can change depending on your need. The first 1-2 sessions involve an assessment of your current difficulties and experiences across your lifespan. After this, together we come to a 'formulation' or understanding of what you are struggling with, and the reasons why. Understanding the 'why' is often an enlightening and relieving experience. Once there is understanding of why you are struggling with something, it is often then so much easier to take a step towards recovery.  At this point, we would make collaborative decisions about the best way forward in terms of therapy. It may be that you want to take time to consider your options, and this is fine. You may not be ready for therapy and might want a bit more time to decide.

The Benefits of Online Therapy:

We know that current times are difficult and many people are faced with fear and anxiety about so many aspects of life. Online therapy is flexible, you can stay in the safety of your own home or somewhere else. You can see the therapist that you feel is right for you, even if they live far away. The thought of online therapy can seem uncomfortable initially, but it is now something that technology has made a very easy thing to do, and I can assure you from my experience of delivering it that it has just as many benefits to face-to-face therapy, if not more. There are also so many virtual platforms now, especially built to enable online therapy to be effective and comfortable.
